Qantas is introducing a new system to get you on board and to your destination quicker. To improve efficiency and ensure timely takeoffs, passengers will be divided into six boarding groups, making the boarding process smoother and faster.
Qantas is first testing its new boarding system on Airbus A330 and Boeing 737 flights within Australia. These planes are commonly used for domestic routes connecting major cities. Their new system arrives in stages: Brisbane (June 3rd), Perth (June 10th), Melbourne (June 17th), and Sydney (June 25th).
Those in Business Class, Platinum, Platinum One Frequent Flyer, and Chairman’s Lounge will board in Group One. Gold Frequent Flyers will follow closely in Group Two. Moving away from the traditional front-to-back boarding, Qantas will split the cabin into four zones for a more efficient process.
After Group Two, boarding continues by section, with Group Three boarding first from the back of the economy cabin, followed by Groups Four to Six towards the front. Your boarding group will be displayed on your boarding pass. To board, simply scan your pass when your group is called.
By splitting the cabin into zones, Qantas’ new boarding system aims to speed up boarding and reduce congestion, allowing passengers in the back to board sooner. This should minimizr the wait typically caused by luggage storage and passenger movement.
